North Norfolk Karate Club

Description: The club was formed in January 2007, starting to teach adults Cardio Kickboxing one class a week in Crimplesham, just outside of Downham Market, Norfolk.

This very quickly grew and now the club runs multiple classes at bothWimbotsham Village Hall and the Howdale Community Centre in Downham Market. We offer multiple Adult and Junior classes each week on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Classes cover topics such as Self Defence, Fitness, Ground work, Sparring, Weapons, Kata and of course grass roots basics. Occasionaly we will also offer specialised classes in grapling, locks & holds, competition and general sparring, meditation, and talks and training in the history, philosophy and culture from which Karate has come - to try and offer students of all ages a complete art form, as well as a self defence and fitness system.

We promote the values that the Martial Arts training we provide is not a weapon to be unleashed on people, but more a life skill that will never leave. We train to fight in Karate so that we don't have to fight! Mind, body and spirit together can bring balance, well feeling and great longevity in life, for both adults & children. This is often called the do (as in Karate-do).

We do not follow a specific style of Karate, although basics and Kata's are heavily based on the Shotokan Karate system. The reason is simple, everybody is different, people don't want to be labelled, therefore each student will take what is of benefit to them, what works for one person might not work for another!

The club is affiliated to the English Karate Organisation, led by chief instructor Sensei Dave Sharkey. The club is also listed with Black Belt International and Active Norfolk (Norfolk County Council). With links to other local and regional clubs/organisations.

All instructors are fully enhanced CRB cleared with first aid and child protection training. The club has appointed two Child Protection Officers (Emma Morton & Helen Gooding) with a third Debbie Cann looking after our Duke of Edinburgh Award. All three are currently undergoing training and have nearly completed the required units to be offical Teaching Assistants within the North Norfolk Karate Club.
